AT WORK IN TORONTO

At Work In Toronto Handout is a project that aims to give tips to students who are participating in a Co-op term overseas, specifically in the city of Toronto.

TOOLS & SKILLS

Skills: Organizing, Writing, Marketing

Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator

OVERVIEW

My task is to specifically tailor the handout to students who are travelling to Toronto for the Co-op work term. Not all students have the means and connections to travel overseas on a work term. They usually worry about finances, their work environment, friends, commute, and other factors that are associated with moving for a job position. Thus, this handout is designed to alleviate some of the common concerns that Co-op students have by providing helpful tips from various alumni. Additionally, I also research information about the city to provide the best content for students travelling to Toronto.

design rationale

The design requirements and guidelines are fairly strict with this project. I followed the previous format that has been used for handouts associated with helping students relocate to different cities for their Co-op term. However, the way in which I organize information, layout, and written content can change to best fit the needs of students.

CHALLENGES

Not only does this project require conciseness, but it also required me to conduct further research. Although I'm not well-acquainted with the go-to(s) of Toronto, I'm eager to research relevant information to inform students who will be travelling there. Most importantly, I wanted the Toronto handout to be unique so that information won't be repeated on other handouts that students may seek. Specifically, I want the content of this handout to be extremely succinct and can resonate with university students.

To overcome these challenges, I can't solely rely on traditional and mainstream sources for information. Instead, I decided to look up Facebook groups for housing, testing each different forums for affordable accommodations, and browse social media for fun things to do in Toronto.

Keeping in mind that some university students have accumulated student loans, I incorporate content that best-fit students' needs as accommodations and transit options are affordable. However, for those looking to have extra fun on the side, I've also decided to include sight-seeing pass and recommendations for fun activities in Toronto. Moreover, I also provided information on that covers a variety of interest under Athletics and Recreations, with sources that encompasses fencing, martial arts, yoga, and other recreational activities,

OUTCOME

This project turned out to be a great success, as the final handout is extremely useful for students that are travelling to Toronto for work and Co-op opportunities. The information was listed in a clear manner that includes relevant links that redirect students to the website's homepage. Additionally, there is an abundance of options that covers a wide range of interests, allowing students to explore a diverse experience in Toronto!
